  • Paula Cohen | Trustee

Paula Cohen celebrated her ninth birthday at Philadelphia’s Forrest Theatre, mesmerized and exhilarated by a performance of the national tour of Music Man with Forrest Tucker.  It was day one of knowing what she wanted to do with her life.  Twenty years later, she worked her first Broadway show, 42ND Street, and has been part of the theatre community ever since.  Paula is forever grateful for being raised in a union household, being able to continue her education (The Philadelphia High School for Girls, Temple University, Hunter College, and Columbia University), and work in our industry.  She serves on 764’s Finance, Political Action, and Organizing Committees. She is a member of the Coalition of Women in Labor Unions, attends

Central Labor Council meetings, and advocates for the IA Political Action Committee.  Paula has studied U.S. Labor History and U.S. Labor Law at the New School and Collective Bargaining at Cornell University Labor Studies Program.  She spent several years teaching computers/technology, and continues to ponder how online resources, social media, tech gadgets and programs can be utilized to not only help find work, but to make us safer, more efficient, and help illustrate to others how unions can improve peoples’ lives.  How do we use 21st century technology to protect and spread the concepts and practice of organized labor? It’s among our challenges for the future that Paula looks forward to exploring with her brothers and sisters.

  • Debra Katz Weber | Trustee

Debra Katz Weber decided early on to pursue a life in this business we call “show”.  Though she worked in all aspects of theater production and performance at Brandeis University, she felt inexplicably drawn to the costume shop.  After seeing Joe Papp’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park, she stalked wardrobe supervisor Elonzo Dann for a year until he relented and hired her as a dresser the following summer.  He hired her again, right after her college graduation, to dress Constance Towers in the first revival of “The King and I” on Broadway.  After a year of hounding Local 764, she was sworn in as a member in 1977 by business representative Fredda Briant, who promised she would never find work.  It’s been 38 years of continuous employment ever since, in the venues of Broadway, television and film.  Debra is proud to have seen our Local grow and become more widely respected over those years.
