LOCAL 764 RESPONSE TO VIOLENCE SURROUNDING THE MURDER OF GEORGE FLOYD
Theatrical Wardrobe Union, Local 764, IATSE condemns violence, bigotry, racism, and prejudice in all forms. The lives of our family, friends, and co-workers have been put at risk by the CoVid-19 crisis over these last few months. However, racism and hate have been the most enduring crisis affecting our city, and our country. We must stand together in solidarity to protect our communities of color and their futures.
In the words of our IATSE Equality Statement, (https://www.iatse.net/equality) “Equal rights are the cornerstone of the labor movement. Unions were founded on the principle that all people are equal and all people are deserving of respect and fair treatment.” We must all be true to those principles. We must work together with all people for peace and tolerance, respecting everyone’s right to collectively express and defend their ideas.
Nobody’s life lacks value because of the color of their skin. Black Lives Matter.
“Racism separates, but it never liberates. Hatred generates fear, and fear once given a foothold; binds, consumes and imprisons. Nothing is gained from prejudice. No one benefits from racism.”
