COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS in the WORKPLACE:
UPDATE: March 16, 2020 10 am
AS OF THIS EMAIL (3.16.20 10 AM) THE LOCAL 764 OFFICE WILL REMAIN OPEN. If possible, please call the office instead of, or in advance of coming to the office in person.
Over the weekend, the situation in New York and the surrounding areas has developed significantly.
As of this writing:
Local 764 is, along with the IATSE International and the other Entertainment Unions and Guilds, in constant contact with the Employers, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), the City and State Department of Labor and government, and governing Labor Organizations, including the IATSE International, the New York Central Labor Council and State and Federal AFL-CIO.
While the situation is wide-spread, communication with the different jobs and employers is still mostly on an individual basis. The Local 764 business agents will be in touch with the supervisors and crew as appropriate.
PLEASE CONTINUE to contact Local 764 with information you are given from your employers and productions!
We are currently encouraging people who have been laid-off to open an unemployment claim immediately, even if your job will be paying you during the time not working. When and if you receive pay, do not claim for the weeks you are compensated. Waiting periods for unemployment compensation have, in most cases, been waived. For information, go to https://labor.ny.gov/unemploymentassistance.shtm
Local 764 is in ongoing talks with the different employers about the effects of shows being suspended, and we are hopeful that there will be clarity for everyone in the upcoming week.
If you are on a job where work continues please let the office know – and follow the general guidelines about work safety. are important as part of a disease
Due to an abundance of caution and in order to comply with the New York City Mayor’s guidelines, the Local 764 March Membership Meeting, scheduled for Thursday, March 26 is canceled. More information on this to follow.
