A Conversation with Paul Tazewell and FIT President Joyce Brown

Paul Tazewell is a true icon in the field of costume design, working across stage and screen, whose career has profoundly shaped visual storytelling for over three decades. His flm work has earned him historic accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Critics Choice Award for his stunning designs on the flm Wicked (2024). He was also previously nominated for an Academy Award for West Side Story.
On stage, he is a multi-Tony Award winner, known for creating the revolutionary, Tony-winning designs
for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, and has contributed to numerous other celebrated Broadway
productions, including Ain’t Too Proud, MJ, and Suﬀs. His honors also include a Primetime Emmy Award for The Wiz Live! (2015)
