| Dear Brothers and Sisters: An urgent request has been mad by recently elected AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. He Needs our help right now to push health care reform over the wire. We can make a difference if we all step up fast and step up big. Of course my answerer to President Trumka was yes, he count on the IATSE. I know our members are ready to stand up for health care reform. We need full membership mobilization for the next several weeks, just as if it was the last few weeks of a presidential election campaign. Our goal is for members to write or call Congress when the bills are coming to the floor. It will take that kind of effort to counter the insurance company and right wing media assault. It will take that kind of effort to stop the attempt to tax hard won benefits, to make every employer pay their fair share, and to win the public health insurance option that can keep insurance companies honest and make reform work. On the reverse side of this letter there are Talking Points that may be used when making calls, or sending letters or emails to Senators and members of Congress. For more in depth information on each point, you may access details on health care reform issues on the IATSE Web site at: www.iatse-intl.org. I am asking each and every local to get your mobilization structure up and running for health care reform right away. Please designate a local campaign coordinator, and send me their name and contact information. That's the way to win. You will have the tools and support you need. The AFL-CIO has a Turn up the Heat for Health Care Reform Tool Kit and my office will be on hand to assist you if necessary. Since things are moving fast, I have assigned Assistant to the President Debbie Reid to report to me every week on our progress in meeting that goal of 10% membership mobilization and to be in regular contact with the AFL-CIO and our sister unions. You can contact her by email at dreid@iatse-intl.com , or by phone: (212) 730-1770. We are so close to victory, and our union will be part of this victory. We must do all that we can to influence this legislation now. Health Care Can't Wait. In Solidarity, Mathew D. Loeb INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT |
